We spent the first week back preparing for our Exeter College Awards Evening performance. Our gig preparation routine generally consists of running through each of our written songs and discerning whether or not we need to do any kind of deeper work on them to perfect them. We found that songs such as After Everything and Belmont Park were more rusty than the other two because we haven't sung them in a while. To get round this, Daisy uses the piano to break down the harmonies for each person so that we regain the togetherness that is needed for our harmony dominated songs to sound good.
The performance went really well, we ran through each song to soundcheck because we were nice and early and got used to the space by practicing harmonies acapella.
A few members of the college came up to congratulate us for our group performances as well as our individual solo performances.
The only negative point was the fact that we didn't quite have enough material to fill the hour slot. We have learned from this and will have more songs and covers prepared for our next longer set.
In the Friday practice session, we were influenced by an exercise in James' lesson, where we chose to write a Gregorian chant with the same words as 'Follow Me Down'. James' gave us some really positive feedback on our creation and we've decided to include it at the beginning of the song, acapella. Friday was spent perfecting this and refining it. Daisy and I, were in charge of writing the harmonies and Bekah and Lucy learnt the parts, it still needs work and the rhthyms need refining but we plan on making it better next week.
After the Friday session we spent extra time recording with Jack Arrowsmith. We decided to re - record the whole song ('Over') because we didn't really like what Jack had done with it at first. We learnt from this experience and therefore explained wha we wanted in a clearer manner.
We recorded each of our voices seperately, following a base track that Lucy had put down. Next Tuesday George is going to add the bass.
Until next week,
Bethan
