This week, we spent a good proportion of our time playing through our first 2 finished songs and perfecting the harmonies that were slightly off in our performance the Friday before. We did this by just singing the harmonies acapella over and over, in order to get the right blend of voices. I was really pleased with how dedicated we were to perfecting this aspect of our playing.
We then discussed whether we should write another song or use one that we had individually written. Luckily, Daisy, Lucy and I had written a song in James' thursday session: 'Belmont Park', it seemed only right to add it to the 'Wolves' repetoire. We taught Bekah the song and agreed who would sing which verses and which harmonies. The song was sorted pretty quickly, we then added a flute improvisiation in the instrumental sections to add a nostalgic, traditional folk atmosphere to the song. The structure and form of the song in itself is very simple so the extra instrumentation really brought new layers of interest to it.
As well as perfecting our originals, we put together a list of covers that we might want to learn for gigs in the future and discussed our plan of action for the AS awards evening.
The overall band dynamic this week was really productive and coherent, next week we plan to spend the night at Lucy's in order to have extra band time which will hopefully result in another original song and give us a chance to become more tight as a band by getting to know eachother on a deeper level.
Until next week.
