This week we worked on a new song, recorded 'Over' for a potential radio appearance and ate nachos at Lucy's whilst having an over night extra band practice! Talk about dedication Martin!!!
At our extra practice we wanted to work on something completely new. We had wanted to take Daisy's original 'Scattered on the floor' since we were put together as a band and this seemed to be the perfect oppurtunity to do so. Daisy talked us through the meaning and subtlties of the song and we then began to create beautiful harmonies and dynamic and textural constrast. Here is what we decided:
In our Thursday session, we needed to video our song 'Over' because Bekah's friends at PhonicFM were interested in us having a slot. This was a new challenge for us and gave us insight into what we sounded like when recorded. It made us rethink our harmonic blending and we noticed that me and Bekah came through much more because of our stronger voices. In the second recording, Bekah and I held back and we found that the blend was much better.
In Friday's session, we ran through all our songs, 'Scattered' still needed some work so we spent the most time on that. We then experimented with some covers, but decided that we didn't have enough time to perfect covers before the AS awards evening. This friday session was slightly frustrating 2 members of the group were not as proactive as the other 2, I just felt that with our first gig fast approaching, we couldn't afford to not 'be bothered'...however I am sure it was just a Friday thing and it will all be fine next week.
Until next time.

Daisy talked us through the meaning and subtlties of the song and we then began to create beautiful harmonies and dynamic and textural constrast. Here is what we decided:
- Daisy would sing the opening verse and chorus - because of the pure nature of her voice and the fact that the song belongs to her - we though this would add to the emotional atmosphere of the song, something we, as a band, feel is very important.
- The harmonies, we decided, would come in when the 2nd verse begins, we loved how this sounded, but had to go through the harmonies a lot, because we found it difficult to pick our starting notes out of nowhere. The harmony then continues throughout the pre chorus, chorus and interlude sections.
- Daisy would then sing the beginning of the repeated chorus alone, to add dynamic contrast . The harmony then continues at 'The socks with their holes'.
- The ending of the song is left open, there is no perfect cadence, we felt that the end needed to be interesting and ambiguous because it fit with the general feel of the song.
