We had a very busy week this week!
In our Tuesday session, we were still getting ready for our gig at the AS Awards Evening, so we played through our songs in the order that we were going to do them on the night and listened to the solo songs that Bekah, Lucy and I were doing in order to get a sense of how long our set would actually be. Our harmonies are the trickiest aspect of our style, so we spent a good proportion of time sing parts of our songs acapella in order to make them sound amazing!
Our performance at Live Lunch the next day (Wednesday) went really well, we sand Belmont Park and had some grat feedback from the audience, there were a few constructive comments about the bluntness of having the words 'Belmont Park' in the song, so perhaps in the future we will make that lyric more subtle, or explain to the audience that it was written in response to an assignment in James' class.
I felt that the performance/set at the awards evening went really well, despite all the technical challenges and confusion. It is clear that our style of songwriting and intricate melodies and harmonies are better suited to a quieter gig setting, but we really valued our experience and learnt a lot about performing as a band. A lot of onlookers really appreciated our performance (especially my Dad). We also really want to thank you Martin for coming to support us, without your help with sound and organisation it would have been a catastophe!
In our Friday session, we began writing a new song, headed up my Lucy Aggett, which so far has a lovely minor guitar accompaniment and a verse and a half. I look forward to writing as a group again, I think playing off eachother's suggestions and ideas gives us the best end result.
I look forward to performing 'Scattered' this tuesday.
Until next time!
